Whats your choice of head for your snare?

Just wondering what skins some of you use on your snare drums? I always went for the evans power center reverse dot until recently I put a remo powerstroke 3 on my snare and I got an amazing sound!

For about 2 years now Remo Emperor Xs. Really strong and I love their sound. They do a good job keeping a lid on my Ludwig Supra. Just ordered one of them new Remo Black Xs. Same weight as regular Emperor X. Dunno how itll sound.

Evans power centre is probably my favourite but Remo Vintage Ambassadors are a dark horse and well worth a look too.

Drum Kit: Pearl Reference Series

I've been using an Evans G Plus on my reference snare recently...gives it a nice "Thwack"

Quite a surprisingly pleasant result!

Drum Kit: DW Collectors & PDP MX. Zildjian & Sabian cymbals. A load of snares...

My vote goes to the Emperor X.

I find they are the easiest to tune, and rarely need adjustment mid-gig/rehearsal

Hmm, there's an Evans Power Centre on it at the minute (Bronze Sensitone) but I'm toying with the idea of going back to the Remo Emp X.

Drum Kit: Sonor Delite - 22, 10, 12, 14, 16 in Birdseye Maple Azure, Brady jarrah ply snare, Delite brass snare, DW Craviotto snare.

[*] posted on 9-9-2010 at 07:03

Depends on the snare. On my Brady, a good old coated Ambassador is perfect. The Delite Brass has an Evans coated G1, and the Craviotto has...I forget. I'll check later. I did try other heads on the Brady but the Ambassador gets the best out of it IMO. I do like my snare very "alive", though, I'm not one for a damped, moongel'ed, thick headed snare.

Agree with 'Mully' Drums are designed too 'sing' so whatever heads you go for always get someone to play your kit while you go and listen I know its an obvious thing but a lot of drummers dont do it . I've heard so many guys sayimg I want that 'studio' sound and so dampen their kits way too much Young drummers especially confuse the two. By the time your drums have gone through desks, samplers compression etc.. etc.. in studio the final product is way different to how it started So tune your drums too 'sing'
